The Belgian collective C-Page (Childhood and Youth Animation Promotion) has initiated a project gathering a hundred pupils from the city of Liège. All are enrolled in primary school classes of underprivileged neighborhoods.
Workshops are offered to children around the highly classical and controversial question “What is the use of money?” Role-playing games, writing, debates and reports allow the exploration of all aspects of this issue.
Using their creativity, the young pupils have, in particular, invented sentences and logos in relation with their questioning. They have forged expressions:
"A friend is dear"
"I dream of working"
"Enjoying one’s family each day is having wealth in the palm of one’s hand"
"Share crust"
"Health cannot be bought"
They have linked these expressions to logos inspired by their imagination. Mottos and logos are now available to the public for the creation of customized T-shirts.
In the end, this initiative may have brought up more new questions than answers, but it appeared to be, for young citizens, an opportunity to foster their thinking on the issue of the uses and value of money.
